Fortune Tee's ranking as a 'Top Ten Celebrity Baby Gift' on the Entertainment TV Show - E! News Live was a fortune cookie come true for creator Carla O'Brien.
Fortune Tee was 'born' in 2002 when, after dining at a Chinese restaurant in Los Angeles, Carla received a fortune cookie message that read, 'You will make a fortune with a friend'.
Taking the message as a sign, she created a unique line of baby and kids t-shirts emblazoned with tongue-in-cheek sayings that play on the proverbs found inside fortune cookies. Enlisting the help of good friend Megan MacEachern, they launched the line which was immediately a hit and quickly became the hot new gift for the children of celebrity and hipster Moms in Los Angeles.
Inclusion in the 2003 Grammy gift bags, many great features in magazines and newspapers including People magazine, Harpers Bazaar and In Style and various TV spots such as the 'Today Show' and 'Live with Regis and Kelly' saw the ultra hip t-shirts spread from local LA stores to over 450 boutique specialty stores across the USA and overseas in England, Italy, France, Germany, Japan and Australia. Due to popular demand, Fortune Tee quickly expanded the line to include a fun collection of womens, mens and maternity t-shirts as well as Chinese zodiac inspired t-shirts featuring cool and edgy designs.
Carla OBrien is originally from Melbourne, Australia. In 1998 she moved to Los Angeles as the National Sales Manager for one of Australias leading travel companies - Australian Pacific Touring. Living in LA she was bitten by the entrepreneurial bug which lead to the creation of FORTUNE TEE.
